New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year 2022

Do you like New Year’s Resolutions? Do you like to resolve to change or to become more of something that you want? Or do you prefer to simply make new goals at the beginning of the year because it is a good start time for tracking? If you do not do any of these things, is there a reason why you choose not to join the masses?

I like to make resolutions. I do this more than once a year. New years in a good time. I also like to look at them again in March, early summer, and again in September. All those times feel like good times to track my goals and to reassess what I am working towards. I think it is important to make sure that I have a focus and that I am intentional in the focus of my life.

With that being said, I wanted to share my resolutions with you so that I have them visible and so that maybe you can help me to be accountable. Maybe my goals will inspire you in some way.

When I create goals like this, they must be SMART goals:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Timebound

My goals/resolutions for 2022:

Health Related

Sleep on average of 7 or more hours per night. I track my sleep daily so I will be able to measure it easily. I must focus on being in bed by 9:30pm each night with lights out no later than 10:20pm. I wake up between 5:30 and 5:55 each morning and it takes me about 3 minutes to fall asleep most nights. If I can stay away from games (Catan and Sudoku) and social media at the end of the night.

Eat more vegetables. This seems like it should be simple, but it is very easy to skip this and not have vegetables. I love vegetables, but they take some prep. Part of this will be to prep some carrot and celery each week. I will be able to quickly grab them for my lunch without much effort. I’m going to make some soups that have a lot of vegetables.

Get 10,000 steps per day. I was doing this consistently until last July when I went away for a week and found it difficult and my Garmin tracker broke. Now I have an Apple watch and I am able to track again. If you want to add me to push me towards my goal, please let me know. I often compete against my husband and think that motivation will help me achieve this.

Drink more water. Specifically, at least 2 litres a day. I was doing well for quite a while and then it all faded. I think keeping this goal will require some form of tracking and reminders.

Relationships

Improve the way I talk with my husband. He is very kind and I tend to point out things that he does not do well more than what he does well. I aim to work on being gentler. One way is to stop and think before I speak. This can be difficult at times. Maybe even ask if I can provide feedback before giving it.

I want to spend more quality time with my family. I will plan little adventures for us to partake in and develop a list of things to do together that do not involve a tv. I want more interaction. I want to play more games and cook/bake together. This will start with daily intentions to talk about something we can do together that would bring us all joy.

Send out cards to “say hi” or “happy birthday” each month. I often forget until the last minute and then do not get the cards out. I will aim to be better this year. If you were born early January and I have your mailing address, you may get a card that is a little belated. I am a work in progress after all. If you want cards from me, send me a text or email with your mailing address and birth date, if you think I may not already have it. I love to send happy mail – don’t be shy about the request.

Text a brief message to at least one person a day. Again, if you want to be on my list of people I contact, let me know. I want to try to cultivate my relationships. I know it is difficult for people to meet up during these times, but even a brief message is sometimes all someone needs to know they are in someone’s thoughts.

Creativity

Expressions in Ink Card

Make one new meal per month. I tend to stick to the same things, and I want to expand my culinary skills even if it is a new way to cook a chicken breast. Each time I make something new I will try to post about it so that you can see how my new recipe goal is progressing.

Make and post 3-4 new cards a week. My ultimate goal is one a day, but I think that might be more than I can handle. I think 3-4 is realistic. If I can do a bunch on the weekend, then I can just spread out the posts. If there is a card you want to see, please ask.

Card Business

I would like to start providing classes (online for now) and growing my business to allow me to move into the next level. This will require more team members and a few more sales, but maybe you can spread the word that I have classes and can even do events with you or your friends. I have a few ideas and would love to have some of you join me for a class or stamping day.

Host a World Card Making Day Event which takes place in October. Hopefully, by then, I will be have a few more people on my team and a few more people who have taken my classes.

Create card tutorials for this blog. One per month is my goal right now as I have never done this before. I am sure that it will become easier the more I do. Once again, if you have liked a card I have made and want to know the details, ask and I will try to include it as one of my tutorials.

Learn how to create and publish YouTube video tutorials for my cards. I have yet to figure this all out and want to be able to provide you with something worthwhile. If anyone has some guidance here, please feel free to share your expertise.

Peaceful Home

Organize all the clothes I have in a giant pile and sell or donate them. This has been ongoing since Stephanie grows too fast. There are plenty of my clothes that need to be dealt with as well. If I have this done by March, I will be happy.

Read more books. I will do this by making this one of my requirements before social media or video games. It will allow me to tackle that goal while also dropping things I do not like.

Build a window seat in our dining nook that will provide storage, more seating, and a peaceful area to read a book. I love the area, but it is under utilized for lack of comfortable seating. I will work with my husband on this.

Create built-in desk/storage/bookshelves in the office. We have wanted this for a long time and know it is a big undertaking, so we are trying a few easier tasks prior to this one. I hope to have this done by next December.

That is quite the list. I have some tracking mechanisms on my phone and with old fashioned pen and paper. I know that I can meet these goals and maybe a few more. If you see anything on my list you have a suggestion for, please share with me. I am open to all ideas.

I hope this helped you a little or gave you some insight into me. Whether you set goals, resolutions, or simply set intentions, good luck! I hope you do well – I am rooting for you.

Have a great day and spread a little kindness today.
